With the recent tumultuous hurricane season showers we've been experiencing here in Ohio, be prepared to receive an unexpected guest at your front door.

There are plenty of one-man companies around that boast inexpensive, bargain roofs, but we would like to stress that you get what you pay for when it comes to roofing, and while a low rice tag may be appealing the work done will not be. If you're not looking out for the warning signs, you could end up paying double for a job that could've been done one time. Here are some warning signs that you may be getting a quote with SCAM written all over it.

1) They conveniently show up right after a big storm: Also known as Storm Chasers, these types will take advantage of stressed homeowners. In a nutshell, they will usually travel door to door, passing out leaflets and offering significant discounts if the homeowner files an insurance claim after a huge storm. The work done is hastily finished and very poor, as they normally will go through entire neighborhoods claiming to have "just finished" a neighbors roof to get you to agree to their work. You can avoid falling for this scam by doing your research!

2) They Quote (really, really) Low: You may be shopping around for a new roof and come across a quote that is significantly lower. While this might usually pique your interest, beware! Some of you may be thinking that it sounds like a great deal, however this quote may not account for surprise miscellaneous costs that a professional would see from the start and add to the estimate before the job has started. The initial quote may be low, but you'll end up paying more in the end from surprise costs and a poor quality of work.

3) They Don't have much of an online track record: Whenever you invest in a new roof, it is critically important to do your homework and research your roofing company. If the person at large does not seem to have an online presence or any accreditation (BBB, Angie's List), we can't stress enough the importance in doing proper, thorough research.

Overall, when it comes to knowing if the unexpected guest at your front door is from a true, reputable roofing company, follow these signs! Save yourself the hassle and give us a call if you need a new roof!
